Job Overview
As a VCF Technical Account Manager (TAM) you will use your technical, communication, and collaboration skills to help customers achieve their full potential through the adoption of VMware and Broadcom technologies.
You will interact daily with assigned customers, manage your own schedule and priorities, specialize in a VMware solution area, and build long‑term relationships while aligning technical roadmaps with business goals.
Success in the RoleDuring the first year, you will onboard into the TAM role and work with your assigned customers.
- Complete a well‑organized five‑week onboarding plan.
- Continue developing and maintaining deep technical knowledge for a given VMware technology area.
- Within three months, articulate customers’ long‑term and short‑term goals, identify gaps, and develop a structured engagement plan.
- Establish long‑term relationships with customers.
- Partner with customers to accelerate desired outcomes through best‑practice guidance that enables rapid deployments and adoption of VMware technologies.
- Educate customers on emerging technologies and align their technical roadmaps with VMware’s offerings.
- If not already certified, aim to achieve VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
- Between six and eleven months after joining, present your achievements using internal tools and deliverables.
- Provide project leadership, coordination, and architectural guidance for customers’ major VMware initiatives.
- Serve as an advocate for customers, providing constructive product feedback to VMware product‑management teams.
- Seek advanced certification and/or knowledge in the solution area you wish to specialize in.
You will collaborate with the broader VMware account team and specialists to deliver value to customers.
- Leverage a TAM playbook, delivery kits, and tools to guide customers through activities such as technology roadmaps, assessments, solution guidance, operations optimization, and industry benchmark insights.
- Provide solution guidance and best‑practice reviews to identify performance‑optimization opportunities.
- Optimize operations to ensure activities align with stated technology goals and priorities.
- Provide industry insights and benchmarking to realize cost savings and reduce operational risk.
- Use organizational and planning skills to track customer plans, adjust as needed, and drive completion.
- Collaborate across VMware’s Customer Success, Global Support, Education, Professional Services, Development, and Sales teams to create “customers for life.”
- Contribute to the internal global TAM community by sharing experiences and learning from peers.
- VMware Cloud Foundation
- vSphere (vCenter and ESXi)
- NSX‑T and Advanced Threat Protection
- vSAN
- Aria Suite of Products (Operations, Operations for Logs, Operations for Networks, Automation)
- Site Recovery Manager
- vCloud Director (low priority)
- Minimum VMware Certified Professional in one domain (multiple domains a plus)
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional (any VCAP level is a plus)
- VCIX
- Industry certifications such as PMP, CISA, ITIL, Azure, AWS, GCP, CCNA/CCNP
