Job Description & How to Apply Below
Role Overview
We are currently looking for Database Developer who will be responsible for the full data layer for this engagement a dual-engine environment where the Correspondence System uses SQL Server, and the Archiving System uses Oracle. This person must be equally competent in both platforms, lead the migration from the existing stored-procedure-heavy data layer to Entity Framework ORM, and ensure that backup, recovery, performance, and security standards are met for production databases supporting a client organization with zero-downtime requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Manage, optimize, and support both production databases (SQL Server and Oracle).
- Lead the stored procedure to Entity Framework migration alongside the development team, designing the migration strategy and owning the database side of the transition.
- Design, implement, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery plans for both DB engines; recovery procedures must be documented and drilled.
- Monitor database performance continuously using App Dynamic and native tooling; identify and resolve bottlenecks before they cause SLA breaches.
- Build and maintain cross-system data integration flows between the Correspondence System (SQL Server) and the Archiving System (Oracle).
- Implement and maintain database-level security controls: access control, encryption at rest, row-level security, audit logging.
- Support developers with query writing, execution plan analysis, and index design throughout development waves.
- Produce and maintain database documentation in Arabic: schemas, ERDs, data dictionaries, backup procedures, and recovery runbooks.
- Fluent Arabic Speaker is a Must.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated professional experience with both Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database in production environments.
- Experience with database performance tuning, backup/recovery design, and production incident response.
- Experience with ORM systems Entity Framework Core or equivalent preferred.
- Microsoft SQL Server: T-SQL (complex queries, stored procedures, views, triggers, jobs), SQL Server Agent, SSMS, replication awareness.
- Oracle Database: PL/SQL (procedures, functions, packages), Oracle SQL Developer or Toad, performance tools (AWR, ADDM, EXPLAIN PLAN).
- Backup and recovery: SQL Server native backup strategies, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups awareness, point-in-time recovery.
- Backup and recovery:
Oracle RMAN backup configuration, Data Guard awareness, recovery drills. - Entity Framework Core: ORM design, code-first migrations, guidance for developers on EF best practices.
- Database performance tuning: execution plan analysis, index design and review, query rewrites, statistics management for both SQL Server and Oracle.
- App Dynamic (or equivalent APM): database query monitoring, slow query identification, alert configuration.
- Data integration: cross-database data flows between SQL Server and Oracle; ETL basics; integration query design.
- Database security: column-level and transparent data encryption, row-level security, audit trail configuration at DB layer, access control matrix.
- Primary daily tooling: SSMS and Oracle SQL Developer.
- Familiarity with both Windows Server and Linux environments for DB hosting (either may be in use on-site).
- Basic scripting (Power Shell or shell) for database maintenance automation beneficial.
- Systematic and methodical approach to database changes in a zero-downtime production environment requires extreme care; nothing is rushed.
- Detailed documentation discipline for every schema change, index addition, backup configuration change, and recovery test result documented in Arabic.
- Proactive performance monitoring identifies degrading query performance or backup failures before they cause incidents, not after.
- Collaborative mindset that closely partners with developers during the EF migration; the DB developer and developers must operate as a single team, not silos.
- Clear communication of database risks to the Technical Lead; understanding which issues need immediate escalation.
