The GIS Manager will serve as the primary technical authority for geospatial information across a complex, multidisciplinary development program. The role combines GIS production leadership with spatial database management, model integration, data governance, automation, QA-QC, resource planning, and technical capability development. By maintaining reliable geographic information and consistent data structures, the position will enable engineering, BIM, planning, project controls, digital delivery, and management teams to make decisions using trusted spatial evidence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead sector-wide GIS production, technical delivery, data management, and geospatial support across the program.
- Establish GIS priorities, production standards, workflows, procedures, and quality requirements.
- Take technical ownership of GIS deliverables and ensure outputs meet agreed accuracy and completeness standards.
- Serve as the principal GIS Subject Matter Expert for project leadership, clients, and relevant agencies.
- Lead delivery of geospatial models and coordinate their integration with engineering, BIM, planning, and other digital models.
- Determine appropriate technical methods for complex mapping, spatial analysis, and geospatial data challenges.
- Select efficient and scalable approaches for implementing GIS requirements across multiple project areas.
- Define spatial data models, schemas, relationships, constraints, indexes, and classification structures.
- Establish consistent standards for geographic feature attribution, coding, coordinate systems, and metadata.
- Manage the spatial accuracy of GIS datasets used for engineering and management analysis.
- Establish data validation processes to improve completeness, consistency, reliability, and usability.
- Define and enforce topology rules to protect spatial integrity across project databases.
- Oversee spatial database design, administration, maintenance, optimization, and governance.
- Ensure geospatial databases remain accurate, structured, secure, and suitable for efficient querying.
- Coordinate data transformation and migration activities between different geospatial and engineering environments.
- Manage geospatial information received from surveys, engineering disciplines, BIM teams, consultants, and other project sources.
- Establish processes for checking data before it is accepted into controlled GIS repositories.
- Review GIS outputs with a risk-focused approach and identify potential consequences of unreliable spatial information.
- Recommend mitigation measures where data quality, model integration, or technical limitations create project risks.
- Develop and maintain standardized GIS production workflows for repeatable project activities.
- Identify opportunities to automate high-volume geospatial processes.
- Oversee development of Model Builder workflows, scripts, customized tools, and reusable GIS applications.
- Use Python, JavaScript, and appropriate geospatial development technologies to support workflow automation.
- Promote efficient processing of large spatial datasets through structured automation and database optimization.
- Evaluate emerging GIS technologies and recommend practical applications for the project.
- Support implementation of desktop, web, and mobile GIS solutions.
- Guide development of web mapping, mobile field applications, and digital spatial information tools where required.
- Coordinate GIS integration with CAD environments.
- Work with BIM teams to align geospatial data with federated digital models and project coordinate frameworks.
