We’re Hiring:
Senior Gemologist – Jewelry & Precious Metals Laboratory Setup Lead

We are looking for an experienced Senior Gemologist to join our team and lead the establishment and operation of a professional laboratory specialized in jewelry, gemstones, diamonds, and precious metals testing
.

The ideal candidate must have strong technical knowledge in gemology, jewelry examination, and precious metals testing, with the ability to set up a complete laboratory from the planning stage to full operation.

This role is suitable for a senior professional who can build laboratory workflows, select the right equipment, develop testing procedures, train staff, and ensure accurate and reliable examination reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the setup of a professional jewelry, gemstone, and precious metals testing laboratory.
  • Plan laboratory layout, workflow, equipment requirements, safety standards, and operational procedures.
  • Recommend, select, and implement laboratory equipment and testing instruments.
  • Examine and identify diamonds, colored gemstones, pearls, and other precious stones.
  • Determine whether gemstones are natural, synthetic, treated, enhanced, or imitation.
  • Conduct jewelry examination, including mounted stones, loose stones, and finished jewelry pieces.
  • Support precious metals testing for gold, silver, platinum, and other precious metal items.
  • Use appropriate testing tools and methods such as microscope, refractometer, polariscope, spectroscope, UV light, diamond testing equipment, weighing scales, XRF, and other relevant laboratory instruments.
  • Develop standard operating procedures, testing workflows, quality control processes, and reporting formats.
  • Prepare accurate technical reports, examination results, and certificates where required.
  • Ensure proper documentation, sample handling, chain of custody, and record keeping.
  • Train, supervise, and guide junior gemologists, examiners, and laboratory staff.
  • Maintain equipment calibration, laboratory cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
  • Support management in building laboratory services, pricing structure, and future expansion plans.
  • Ensure high standards of accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Senior Gemologist
    , Jewelry Examiner, Gemstone Specialist, or Laboratory Gemologist.
  • Strong experience in gemstone identification, diamond grading, jewelry examination, and mounted stone assessment.
  • Knowledge of precious metals testing, including gold, silver, platinum, alloys, and jewelry hallmarks.
  • Hands‑on experience using gemological and laboratory testing instruments.
  • Ability to establish, organize, and manage a laboratory environment.
  • Strong knowledge of gemstones, diamonds, treatments, synthetics, imitations, and market terminology.
  • Ability to create SOPs, testing reports, laboratory procedures, and quality control standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy in examination and reporting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and supervise a technical team.
  • Good communication skills in English. Arabic is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Gemology certification from a recognized institution such as GIA, IGI, HRD, Gem‑A, or equivalent.
  • Experience in setting up or managing a gemological, jewelry, or precious metals laboratory.
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar laboratory quality standards is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of XRF testing, precious metals analysis, and jewelry valuation is an advantage.
  • Previous experience with a jewelry company, laboratory, assay office, refinery, government entity, or certification body is a plus.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a senior-level gemologist who is not only capable of examining gemstones and jewelry, but also able to build a reliable laboratory operation from the ground up. The candidate should be practical, highly accurate, organized, and experienced in both technical testing and laboratory management.
