The Commercial Manager owns the commercial direction of assigned Grocery categories, balancing customer demand with revenue, margin, inventory, supplier, and market-share objectives. The position requires informed decisions about what products to range, how they should be priced and promoted, and which supplier partnerships can generate sustainable commercial value. Working across buying, supply chain, stores, operations, and marketing, the manager will turn customer insights and trading data into category actions.
Effective execution will directly influence product availability, promotional returns, category profitability, competitive positioning, and the overall grocery shopping proposition.
- Develop Grocery category strategies aligned with sales, profitability, market-share, and business growth targets.
- Own commercial performance across assigned packaged food, beverage, household, and related grocery ranges.
- Lead supplier negotiations covering commercial terms, pricing, promotional investment, agreements, and strategic collaboration.
- Build joint business plans with key suppliers and establish measurable objectives for growth, availability, and profitability.
- Review assortments regularly and optimize product ranges according to customer demand, sales productivity, market trends, and category potential.
- Establish pricing approaches that support competitiveness while protecting targeted margins and commercial returns.
- Plan promotional calendars and evaluate promotional effectiveness using sales uplift, margin contribution, and customer response.
- Analyze sales, gross margin, stock, pricing, promotional results, and category KPIs to identify opportunities and performance gaps.
- Track competitor pricing, assortment developments, market activity, consumer preferences, and emerging grocery trends.
- Identify new products, brands, suppliers, and category opportunities capable of strengthening the customer proposition.
- Work closely with Supply Chain and replenishment teams to improve stock availability and reduce lost sales caused by supply constraints.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Operations, and store teams to ensure effective execution of promotions, launches, and category initiatives.
- Evaluate supplier performance against agreed commercial, quality, availability, compliance, and service expectations.
- Develop strategic supplier relationships while maintaining strong cost discipline and sustainable commercial terms.
- Use trading data and customer insights to support fact-based buying and merchandising decisions.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that increase category productivity, customer satisfaction, and long-term profitability.
The position requires a bachelor 's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field, supported by at least 5 years of relevant Grocery category management experience. Candidates should have worked within a supermarket, hypermarket, retailer, e-commerce business, FMCG organization, or another high-volume consumer environment. Strong familiarity with packaged food, beverages, household goods, and Grocery market dynamics is important.
