AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (AOR) 1. Sales and margin planning- Build the season and annual plans for sales, gross margin, stock and intake margin, by brand, category and store.
- Break the plan down by month and week, and agree targets with the brand manager and finance.
- Set the markup and intake-margin targets for each buy, such as the 3.22 markup and 70% intake GM in your proposal.
- Manage the open-to-buy budget, so purchases stay within plan and the business isn't overstocked or understocked.
- Track committed orders against the remaining budget and flag gaps early.
- Plan how many options and depth to buy by category, price point and size.
- Work with buyers on the range, using past sell-through and best and worst sellers.
- Match the range to each store's size, sales level and customer profile.
- Plan the first allocation of new stock to each store, then replenish best sellers.
- Move stock between stores to balance sell-through and avoid stock-outs or excess.
- Monitor stock cover, weeks of supply, stock turn and aged stock.
- Keep inventory at the planned level, especially before key seasons such as Ramadan, Eid, back to school, White Friday and the national holidays.
- Plan when and how deep markdowns should be, and protect margin while clearing aged stock.
- Review promotions afterwards, such as coupons and cashback, to measure their margin impact and avoid overlapping offers.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports on sales, margin and stock against plan and last year, by store and category.
- Analyse KPIs such as like-for-like growth, average basket value, units per transaction, conversion, sell-through and GMROI.
- Explain the variances and recommend actions.
- Maintain the brand's retail math: FOB, landing costs, markup, uplift and intake margin.
- Support supplier cost negotiations and pricing decisions with margin analysis.
- Link merchandise decisions to store EBITDA and net profit.
- Re-forecast sales and stock in season based on actual trading.
- Plan the opening stock and sales targets for new stores as the brand expands.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related field.
- Diploma or professional certification in Merchandising, Retail Management, or Fashion.
- 1-3 years proven experience in retail merchandising or category management, preferably in fashion or consumer goods.
- Experience working with ERP or retail management systems.
