Job Purpose

The Lead Coach, Sprints / Long is responsible for designing, leading, and delivering high‑performance training programs for sprint and long‑distance athletics disciplines, ensuring athlete readiness for national, continental, and international competitions. The role focuses on optimizing speed, endurance, biomechanics, and race execution through evidence‑based coaching methodologies and integrated support services. Working closely with performance science, sports medicine, and strength & conditioning teams, the Lead Coach ensures holistic athlete development, injury prevention, and peak performance delivery, while upholding SOTC and SOPC high‑performance standards.

Technical

Training & Development
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for sprint (short and long sprints) and hurdles events, aligned with international best practices and competition calendars.
  • Develop event‑specific technical frameworks covering acceleration, maximum velocity, speed endurance, pacing strategies, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, and efficient biomechanics in both long sprinting events and long hurdle events.
  • Customize training cycles and technical drills to address individual athlete profiles, performance levels, and developmental stages.
  • Integrate biomechanical analysis, performance diagnostics, and technical feedback to continuously refine training quality and execution.
Athlete Performance Optimization
  • Utilize performance data (split times, lactate thresholds, VO₂ max indicators, speed endurance metrics, race analysis) to inform training load, recovery strategies, and competition readiness.
  • Collaborate closely with strength & conditioning, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, nutrition, and performance science teams to manage athlete load and minimize injury risk.
  • Monitor athlete wellbeing, fatigue, and recovery indicators, ensuring sustainable performance progression across the season.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to athletes, supporting technical refinement, confidence, and performance consistency.
Competition Preparation & Race Strategy
  • Plan individualized competition strategies for sprint and long‑sprint events, including long sprint hurdles, race modeling, pacing plans, and tactical execution.
  • Prepare athletes for competition through structured pre‑race routines, mental readiness protocols, warm‑ups, and race‑day execution plans.
  • Lead post‑competition evaluations using race footage, performance metrics, and athlete feedback to identify improvement areas and inform future cycles.
  • Support relay and team‑based events where applicable, ensuring alignment with broader athletics performance objectives.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Alignment
  • Work closely with Athletics Federations, national team coaches, and SOTC leadership to align training methodologies, season planning, and athlete pathways.
  • Contribute to talent identification, athlete progression frameworks, and long‑term athlete development models for sprint and endurance disciplines.
  • Support interdisciplinary collaboration across multi‑sport and cluster initiatives within SOTC.
Safety, Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure all training and competition activities comply with SOPC, SOTC, and international athletics regulations and safety standards.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and high‑performance training environment, prioritizing athlete health, wellbeing, and ethical coaching practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, performance reports, and compliance records as required by SOTC governance frameworks.
