Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) - Generalist
Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by following standard operating policies and procedures. They understand method principles, perform quality control & calibrations, conduct preventive maintenance, and analyze results for accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
As an MLT, You Will- Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to the department.
- Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
- Communicate test results in a timely manner, and enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
- Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
- Work alternate shifts as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.
Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or current enrollment in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) with completion of the specific laboratory rotation (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services). Equivalent laboratory training and/or two years of U.S. military experience will meet the education requirement.
PreferredCertification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency.
Other Information- 40 hours per week
- Friday – Sunday (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.)
