Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for an organized Staff Accountant to support a range of small business clients in Roanoke, Virginia. This position centers on maintaining accurate financial records, handling payroll activities, and delivering timely monthly reporting. The role also contributes to compliance-related filings and helps clients navigate day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting software needs.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee accounting activity for a portfolio of small business clients, ensuring records remain complete and up to date.

- Record financial transactions, prepare journal entries, and maintain accurate general ledger balances.

- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations to identify discrepancies and resolve outstanding items promptly.

- Coordinate accounts payable tasks, including reviewing invoices and arranging vendor payments on schedule.

- Produce monthly financial statements and other regular reports to give clients clear insight into business performance.

- Administer payroll processing and submit related tax filings in accordance with applicable requirements.

- Support compliance efforts by assisting with sales tax filings, 1099 preparation, business registrations, and year-end account cleanup.

- Provide guidance on bookkeeping processes and help clients effectively use accounting software for daily operations. Requirements - At least 3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a closely related finance role.

- Practical knowledge of general ledger maintenance and full-charge bookkeeping responsibilities.

- Experience processing payroll and preparing associated payroll tax filings.

- Strong ability to reconcile accounts and prepare accurate monthly financial statements.

- Familiarity with accounting platforms such as Quick Books or similar bookkeeping software.

- Effective communication, organization, and time management skills in a client-focused environment.

- Previous experience managing accounting work for multiple clients is preferred.
