VP Corporate Development and Public Affairs

The Vice President of Corporate Development and Public Affairs is a senior strategic leader responsible for driving sustainable balance sheet growth through high-value corporate relationships and advancing the credit union's influence in legislative and regulatory arenas
. This role integrates business development, strategic partnerships, and advocacy to strengthen the credit union's market position, enhance financial performance, and protect the interests of members and the industry.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Corporate Development Strategic Growth:
    Establish and expand business banking relationships with employers of 250+ employees, focusing on significant deposit acquisition and overall balance sheet growth.
  • Deepen Existing Partnerships:
    Strengthen relationships with current large employers to increase product penetration and account balances.
  • Leverage Expertise:
    Utilize the credit union’s capabilities in commercial, consumer, and impact banking to engage key decision-makers and deliver tailored financial solutions.
  • Serve as Primary Contact:
    Act as the initial point of contact for new corporate partners, ensuring seamless integration with internal subject matter experts until permanent relationship managers are assigned.
  • Community Engagement:
    Represent the credit union with chambers of commerce and economic development organizations to identify and pursue strategic opportunities.
  • Event Representation:
    Coordinate with leadership to ensure strong credit union presence at high-value business development events.
  • Public Affairs:
    Advocate for Industry Interests. Represent the credit union in legislative and regulatory forums, promoting policies that support growth and member benefits.
  • Build Government Relations:
    Maintain and strengthen relationships with local, state, and federal officials, as well as industry associations.
  • Trade Association Liaison:
    Serve as the primary point of contact for state and national trade associations, ensuring alignment on advocacy priorities.
  • Reporting:
    Deliver a comprehensive monthly report detailing new corporate development business activities, employer pipeline, and partnership outcomes.
  • Reporting:
    Provide the CEO with a monthly update on legislative developments, advocacy initiatives, and emerging threats or opportunities impacting the credit union or the industry.
Performance Measurements
  • Must comply with government and other regulations affecting the credit union industry including, but not limited to, OFAC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Meets or exceeds performance expectations as described in Essential Functions and Responsibilities.
  • Refer to Annual Performance Goal document for remaining Performance Measurements.
Knowledge and Skills

Experience
:
Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.

Education
: (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Interpersonal Skills
:
Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Public speaking to include presenting information, leading meetings and speaking at conferences.
  • Skill and ability to use and operate a keyboard, computer, calculator, fax machine, copier, telephone.
  • Skill and ability to read and understand financial statements, contracts, applications, computer printouts, manuals, and other related materials.
  • Must have the skill and ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel and loan application software.
