Job SummaryThe dominant #1 station in the 71st largest market in the country is looking for a journalist to work as a MMJ. We are seeking someone with conversational delivery who can write, shoot, edit, and present compelling stories live. The ability to generate interesting story ideas each day is an absolute MUST. Creativity, strong work ethic, and a passion for journalism are crucial.
At least two years of experience working in a television newsroom is preferred.
- Arrive to the editorial meeting on time at the start of your shift with at least two story ideas that could be produced for that day’s newscasts.
- Assist with the overall content of news stories within newscasts; bring innovative story ideas to editorial meetings and contribute to the station’s goals and direction.
- Field report stories as directed, work flexible hours, and collaborate well with co‑workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned to a general assignment reporter.
- Develop, investigate, write, report, and edit stories of interest.
- With a laptop, write and post a Web story in the car on the way back to the station.
- Edit packages using the Edius system.
- Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.
- Generate investigative stories using sources to dig deeper.
- Work with producers to ensure story accuracy and optimal presentation.
- Create exclusive stories of interest and importance to local viewers.
- Perform creative and explanatory live shots and stand‑ups.
- Write and post website stories prior to airing of the television version.
- Work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Research, gather, write, and report news stories for on‑air and online in an accurate, appealing, timely, and creative manner using all sources.

- Conduct interviews in the field and on‑set.
- Maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments.
- Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate with others to present stories in the best way.

- Attend, host, and speak at community service, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers.
- Post and update stories and other material on the web, often remotely while traveling.
