WSLS / Graham Media Group is seeking a dynamic, experienced Weekend News Anchor/Reporter to join our newsroom. Position OverviewWith a focus on innovative storytelling, you will shoot and edit your stories to add value to all of our station's linear and digital platforms. An understanding of the kind of content audiences seek out is paramount. Passion and creativity are also vital for this role and our newsroom.
The Weekend News Anchor/Reporter will be a central figure in our weekend lineup, engaging our communities with accurate and compelling storytelling across linear, digital and streaming platforms. This role demands a professional with a dynamic on‑air presence, strong news judgment, and the versatility to anchor weekend newscasts and cover impactful news in the field. You will shoot and edit your own stories and collaborate with weekend producers and teammates to deliver content that resonates with our audience.

- Anchor weekend newscasts and deliver accurate, urgent, and compelling coverage, reacting quickly to breaking news on‑air and across digital platforms.
- Engage viewers with compelling storytelling across broadcast, online and social platforms, prioritizing clarity, engagement, and innovation.
- Report live during scheduled weekend newscasts, unscheduled cut‑ins, online segments, and on social media; be available for breaking news during assigned weekend shifts.
- Shoot, edit and produce high‑quality video and audio content for linear, digital, and streaming platforms – able to work solo or with a teammate.
- Act as a "guide" in stories, demonstrating a strong connection to the community through active and engaging reporting and presence.
- Enterprise big stories, hold people and institutions accountable, and summarize complex information while remaining calm under pressure.
- Consistently contribute multiplatform content and coverage ideas that reflect audience interests.
- Utilize creative editing and graphics to enhance storytelling – ensure content is modern, clean and distraction‑free.
- Operate cameras and editing equipment to create visually engaging package pieces and short‑form digital content.
- Foster community connections and leverage relationships to surface important local stories.
- Serve as a mentor within the weekend team, guiding producers and reporters to improve content and presentation.
- Participate actively in weekend community events and interact with the audience on multiple platforms.
- Other duties as assigned; occasional weekday work may be required for major breaking stories or special projects.
- Proven track record handling breaking news coverage with a dynamic on‑air presence and conversational presentation style.
- Demonstrated ability to shoot, edit and produce stories that add value across broadcast and digital platforms.
- Keen news judgment to identify community stories with real audience impact.
- Ability to work well in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure, deadline‑driven environment – specifically managing weekend deadlines and breaking coverage.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑motivated team player who collaborates well with high‑energy journalists and contributes to a culture of creativity and community service.
- Passion for connecting with the community and using transparency and authenticity to build viewer trust and rapport.
- Previous successful anchoring and reporting experience in a news environment, especially weekend anchoring.
- Proficiency with ENPS, iNews, Edius, Adobe Premiere and Microsoft Office 365.
