Carilion Clinic (CC), Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), and the Department of Surgery, Section of Dental Care in Roanoke, Virginia are searching for a Hospital Dentist to join our growing team of 12 dentists, 4 General Practice residents, 22 dental assistants, 5 dental hygienists, and 17 non-clinical support staff in a clinic-based, academic program with remarkable prospects in teaching, research, and clinical dentistry.

Full-time dental specialists include pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and prosthodontics. The Section includes a separate Family Dental Practice located in Roanoke. Carilion Clinic offers the most advanced in-hospital dental care in the region, with inpatient and outpatient services, as well as a pediatric dental program. Carilion's Cleft and Craniofacial Center is American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA)-approved and meets twice monthly at the Dental Clinic.

The CC-VTCSOM’s General Dental Residency program offers a unique educational experience with robust exposure to managing patients with special healthcare needs and the core values of lifelong learning and service to the specialty and community by way of a structured faculty-directed curriculum. A new Pediatric Dentistry residency is in process and is expected to enroll its first class in 2027.

This position offers teaching opportunities and faculty appointment through its affiliation with the VTCSOM and offers research opportunities through the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) and other affiliations. Based in the Level-1 763-bed trauma and academic health center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital/Carilion Children’s Hospital, our program provides comprehensive coverage to over one million people in a large, rural, multi-state area.

The position requires an academic appointment at VTCSOM.

The role is as a Hospital Dentist within an academic, clinic-based program, contributing to teaching, patient care, and service within the CC-VTCSOM system. The section includes pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and prosthodontics, with a family practice location in Roanoke. The Cleft and Craniofacial Center is ACBA-approved and meets twice monthly at the Dental Clinic. The General Dental Residency program provides exposure to patients with special healthcare needs and a structured faculty-directed curriculum.

A Pediatric Dentistry residency is in process with first class anticipated in 2027.

• DDS/DMD degree from an accredited dental school
• GPR/AEGD background required
• Two years hospital experience preferred
• Evidence of strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
