Carilion Clinic in scenic Roanoke, VA is searching for a Palliative Care physician to join its growing palliative medicine program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 763‑bed teaching/tertiary referral center with Virginia State‑designated Level 1 Trauma Center, serving one million people in Virginia. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, thrive in an interdisciplinary team environment, and be a strong ambassador for palliative medicine.

The role requires collaboration and enjoyment of a team‑based environment, providing direct patient care and teaching students, residents, and fellows. There is opportunity for faculty appointment and advancement through affiliation with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a key member of an inpatient palliative care consult service, providing inpatient coverage.
• Manage and support patients and families on the inpatient palliative care unit.
• Participate in a robust practice that includes an outpatient palliative medicine clinic, hospice services covering three counties, and a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
• Share weekend and holiday coverage and take approximately one night per week of home call, with no overnight in‑person care expected.

Qualifications

• ABMS/AOA‑BC or fellowship trained in an approved AAHPM Palliative Medicine program.
• Certified through the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine or plan to receive certification within two years.
