Precision Machining Instructors (Part-Time)
Virginia Western Community College, part of the Virginia Community College System, is seeking part‑time Precision Machining Instructors for its School of Career and Corporate Training. Instructors will perform technical instructional assignments and classroom preparation, including conventional machine tool operation, blueprint reading, precision measurement, CNC lathes and mills, and CAD/CAM systems. The role also supports the program and department with additional instructor duties.
Responsibilities- Teach precision machining courses to students in accelerated formats for certification exam preparation.
- Develop syllabi, exams, and learning strategies for diverse student populations.
- Provide hands‑on instruction in machine setup, machining applications, programming (Proto Trak, Haas, Mazak, Fanuc), process planning, inspection, GD&T, metallurgy, cutting-tool selection, and shop safety.
- Assist with all instructor-related duties to support the program and CCT department.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a machining environment; coursework in a community college or university setting acceptable.
- Proficiency in lathes, mills, CNC/G‑code programming, and at least one of the following controls:
Proto Trak, Haas, Mazak, Fanuc. - Must complete National Institute of Metalworking Skills Level 1 credentials (11 credentials) within first year of hire.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Associate’s degree in a career and technical education field preferred;
National Institute of Metalworking Skills credentials preferred. - Demonstrated record of student credential and institutional outcomes in classroom machining instruction.
