SECONDARY SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER 2026-27
Applicants will be considered for Secondary Social Studies Teacher positions that become available for the 2026-27 school year. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia prior to August 2026.
Position Description/Job SummaryThe teacher will plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Supervise students in various school‑related settings, monitor outcomes, communicate with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials. Maintain records and follow required procedures. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
Responsibilities- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Teach assigned classes on a regular and consistent basis at the designated locations and times.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables achievement of learning objectives.
- Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
- Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, set clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and communicate these to students.
- Establish learning objectives consistent with student needs and the curriculum framework.
- Utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable student achievement.
- Take necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and policy.
- Assist administration in implementing student life and conduct policies and develop classroom behavior rules.
- Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required or requested.
- Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents and the community.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
- Appraise own effectiveness and strive to improve professional competence.
- Participate in school management and share responsibility for the total school program.
- Remain current on instructional practices (e.g., instructional technology).
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements /Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
- A Collegiate Professional License with an endorsement at the appropriate level.
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills.
