Civil Engineer - Transportation Design

Overview

Civil Engineer - Transportation Design at AECOM in Roanoke, VA. This role covers a variety of challenging projects including roadway and drainage design, highway and bridge projects, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies.

• Develop design criteria, roadway geometry, traffic control, signing and pavement markings, drainage systems, and stormwater management.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects.
• Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and internal AECOM standards.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support project designs and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
• Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures.
• Conduct site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing conditions.
• Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations.
• Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to meet the client’s scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making.
• Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers.

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering degree plus four (4) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification
• Demonstrated experience using Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or similar design highway or transportation design applications

• Design experience with VDOT projects
• Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, and Traffic projects
• Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
• Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams
• Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire
• Degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
