Job DescriptionVirginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA, the Career and Corporate Training department (formerly Workforce Development) is currently accepting applications for part‑time day and/or evening Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Instructors.
Responsibilities- Teach classroom and skills laboratory instruction to prepare students for the National Health career Association Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam.
- Deliver the established course curriculum and set up lab equipment, ensuring lab safety and proper use of resources.
- Monitor student progress, assess content mastery and skills proficiency, and maintain attendance and grades in accordance with institutional policies.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in the classroom and track equipment usage and inventory.
- Assist with content development and curriculum enhancements as needed.
- Work with flexible scheduling, primarily weekday evenings or weekends, and may provide remote instruction when required.
- Must be a current Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) with at least one year of experience performing CMA tasks.
- Expert-level knowledge and skills necessary to pass the CCMA exam and familiarity with local and regional health care facilities.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi, exams, and develop learning strategies.
- Experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds, including curriculum and assessment development.
- Highly detail-oriented, capable of meeting deadlines, and skilled in maintaining accurate records.
- Proven ability to provide instruction in accelerated formats geared toward certification exam preparation.
- Track record of high student credential and institutional outcomes in both classroom and lab environments.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field and at least five years of work experience in a patient care setting (clinical medical assisting, LPN, or RN).
- Experience teaching adult learners and working with learning management systems such as Canvas is helpful.
