PCU RN Job Details
  • Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
  • Unit: Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown/Telemetry)
  • Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks (extensions up to 52 weeks available)
  • Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 - 07:15); option for 4x12s
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Start Date: December 15, 2025
  • Charting System: EPIC (EPIC experience required)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: One holiday per 13-week contract
  • Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1910-$1960
Registered Nurse Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or Compact State
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PCU/Stepdown nursing experience
  • Certifications:

    ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (required for PCU nursing jobs)
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
  • Strong skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions and telemetry experience
  • Ability to float to other PCU or medical-surgical units as needed
PCU RN Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to stroke, neuro, and general medicine patients in a telemetry PCU setting
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms; respond to rapid response/code situations
  • Administer medications and manage IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine)
  • Provide respiratory support and manage oxygen modalities (nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP)
  • Perform blood product administration, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line care
  • Implement isolation precautions and maintain telemetry monitoring
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy
  • Float to other PCU or med-surg units as needed
  • Document patient care accurately using EPIC
