Peer Recovery Specialist (Full-Time)

The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) at Into Action Recovery and Wellness Center VA provides peer-based support services to individuals receiving outpatient treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders. Working within the framework of ASAM Level, 2.1, and 2.5 services, the PRS offers unique insight based on lived experience and fosters empowerment, hope, and engagement in the recovery process. This role is essential to the person-centered approach and aligns with Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (VDBHDS) requirements for certified peer support services.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide non-clinical, peer-based support to clients receiving SUD treatment services.
- Provide transportation for clients as needed
- Support the Clinical Director and team by assisting with daily nonclinical duties such as administrative tasks, cleaning, and maintaining a professional workspace.
- Participate in mandatory training and educational opportunities
- Model recovery principles and share personal experience to inspire hope and resilience.
- Support clients in navigating community resources, housing, employment, and social support.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate recovery groups and educational workshops.
- Maintain documentation of peer services in accordance with DMAS requirements.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to support individualized treatment goals.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction.
- Ability to set boundaries and maintain a peer relationship dynamics
- Basic computer literacy: email, word docs, printing and scanning
- Good communication and advocacy skills.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) through DBHDS.
- At least one (1) year in active recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges.
Full-time, primarily onsite with occasional community-based engagement.
Participation in ongoing supervision and continuing education is required.
