Position Summary

Virginia Transformer is seeking a System Administrator – Network Engineer to support and maintain our growing IT infrastructure across multiple manufacturing and office locations in the U.S. This role will be responsible for managing server environments, network systems, and core IT services to ensure high availability, security, and performance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, and comfortable supporting both operational technology and corporate IT systems in a multi-site organization.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Administration

  • Administer and maintain Windows and/or Linux server environments.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and core identity services.
  • Perform system patching, updates, backups, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Manage virtualization environments (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar).
  • Support Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online and related cloud services.
  • Design, implement, and maintain LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi network infrastructure.
  • Configure and support network equipment (firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs).
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance and connectivity issues.
  • Support secure remote access for users and remote facilities.
  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and configurations.
  • Implement network security best practices and segmentation.

Security & Compliance

  • Support endpoint security, patch compliance, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Assist with firewall rules, VPNs, and access controls.
  • Support IT security initiatives and audits.
  • Follow best practices for system hardening and data protection.

End-User & Site Support

  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated IT issues.
  • Support manufacturing floor systems and operational environments.
  • Partner with local site leadership and corporate IT on projects and upgrades.
  • Support new site deployments, expansions, and infrastructure projects.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in IT infrastructure upgrades and modernization initiatives.
  • Support cloud and hybrid IT initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, and security.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in systems administration and/or network engineering.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.
