Occupational Health Nurse – Roanoke/Salem
OverviewFull‑time position providing onsite comprehensive occupational health services at 101 Elm Ave – Roanoke CP07 Carilion Medical Center. Working Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
This role supports a wide range of occupational health duties, including prevention, safety, and wellness programs for employees, while maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses defines an occupational health nurse as a professional who delivers health and safety programs to workers, blending medical expertise and business knowledge to promote a safe work environment.
Responsibilities- Provide basic first aid for work‑related and non‑work‑related injuries (based on company policy)
- Conduct thorough post‑offer physical examinations and pre‑employment drug screens on new employee candidates
- Maintain employee health records while ensuring confidentiality per state and federal guidelines
- Promote an interdisciplinary approach to health care and implement prevention‑oriented, cost‑effective health and safety programs
- Provide case management and manage all cases to facilitate productivity, appropriate care, and return to work (including workers’ compensation, short‑ and long‑term disability)
- Assess healthcare needs and implement/manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA records/reports and worker medical files
- Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return‑to‑work options for workers with restricted duty
- Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety, Operations, and Human Resources to develop operations, programs, and services by providing content expertise
Education: ASN required, BSN preferred
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: RN licensure required. Certification in Occupational Health Nursing or Case Management preferred. Must be prepared to pursue and attain client‑required certifications.
Life Support: BLS required

Minimum Qualifications:
Detail‑oriented, multitask ability, strong interpersonal skills, travel to other company locations required, current knowledge of health and safety legislation, advanced knowledge of public safety and industrial health standards, ability to maintain composure and work effectively within groups.
