This position is located at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital (CFMH) in Rocky Mount, VA.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving while serving as the administrative and clinical resource for the hospital.
  • Responsibility for Hospital-wide triage and proper escalation for clinical, operational, facilities and administrative issues. Provides onsite management in crisis/disaster situations in collaboration with Incident Command Team and Administrator on Call.
  • Act on behalf of Administration serving as the administrative liaison to patients, families, and employees across departments as well as external customers. Coordinates triage activities, as needed, through communication with CTaC, physicians, and leadership of clinical and ancillary departments.
  • Acts on behalf of Patient Advocacy to investigate patient, visitor, physician, and staff concerns and implements appropriate course of action.
  • Coordinates resources necessary to provide adequate staffing for Nursing system wide. Assuring that resources are provided to provide safe quality care for our patients. Collaborates with clinical and support staff to foster delivery of quality care.
  • Acts as Throughput Coordinator in collaboration with CTaC for identifying and problem-solving throughput issues on an ongoing basis.
  • Utilizes leadership skills to organize, prioritize, direct, and give feedback regarding nursing care delivered by various levels of staff within the organization.
  • Contributes to Carilion's Health System's performance improvement activities. Obtains adequate facts and evaluates data to identify and intervene in actual and/or potential safety and risk management issues.
  • Acts on behalf of Ancillary departments as well as departmental leaders after hours. IE:
    Employee Health.
  • Supports nursing staff in clinical tasks for patients of all ages. Maintains awareness of medical plan of care, nursing practice guidelines, policies and procedures, to achieve optimum patient outcomes and a professional environment.
  • Performs advanced clinical skills as identified in competency.
  • Serves as resource for regional facilities.
  • Coordinates and manages patients' deaths within the facility.
  • Integral member of the Emergency Response Team (Code Blue, Rapid Response, Heart Alert, Stroke Alert, BERT, AAA Alert, Rothman Alerts, Sepsis Alerts, etc.). Serving as a clinical expert and facility resource for advanced clinical skills.
  • Assists with staff training and policy interpretation.
  • Supports facility and organization mission, goals, values, and scorecard objectives.

Works closely with staff, peers and service line management to carry out day-to-day operations in alignment with strategic goals and initiatives. Communicates directly with physicians, clinical leaders, senior managers, other departmental personnel, patients and their families. Provides supervision and direction to staff. Must be versatile and flexible in leadership/management skills and work schedule. Responsible for compliance with applicable licensure and accrediting standards.

Travel may be required.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a state approved School of Nursing. BSN or four years of equivalent experience required.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in patient care setting required. Critical care/ED experience preferred. Past management experience preferred. Demonstrated outcomes with projects and management principles in a health care setting.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia required.

Life Support: BLS required. Must achieve Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of acquiring position.
