Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit position requiring a VA or compact RN license and prior Neuro PCU experience.

Details
  • Stroke/Neuroscience telemetry PCU within a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center
  • Patient population includes hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting used to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
  • Day shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
  • Floating required within skillset across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
  • EPIC charting experience required
Requirements
  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required (single-state license accepted only from non-compact states pending)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably at a hospital with 250+ beds or a larger facility
  • Neuro PCU experience required
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience managing cardiac drips without titration, including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
  • Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
  • EPIC EMR experience required
Additional Information
  • Provide telemetry nursing care to stroke, neurology, and hospitalist medicine patients
  • Participate in rapid response and code team activities as needed
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
  • Christmas RTO requests cannot be approved
  • All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with application
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though prior travel experience is preferred
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
  • Local candidates may be accepted; radius requirements apply and may affect pay rate or assignment eligibility
  • Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, and a teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
