American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Neuro PCU position requiring Epic charting experience and active VA or compact RN license.

• Work in the Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital
• Adult patient population with neurological conditions including neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, and neuro-specific diagnoses
• Unit includes 5 dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods
• Floating required to units within clinical skillset
• Epic EMR charting experience required

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact state accepted if pending)
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team utilization
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience managing cardiac drips (no titration)
• Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use

• Provide neuro PCU nursing care including neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, and medical overflow support
• Facility is a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, the region's only Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, and an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with 24/7 neurointerventional coverage
• Affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous travel experience is not required
• Local candidates accepted under specific radius rules
• Candidates residing within 50-99.9 miles may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
• Candidates residing less than 50 miles may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no extension eligibility
• Candidates residing within 100 miles are generally considered local and not accepted outside the stated exceptions
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
• All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
