American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN for a Level I Trauma Center requiring an active VA or compact RN license and prior Level II trauma experience.
Details- PACU unit within a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital
- Patient population includes adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Supports a wide range of surgical specialties including ICU, trauma, pediatrics, bariatric, breast, colorectal, dental, ENT, gynecology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, pulmonology, and urology
- Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 6:45pm to 7:15am
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
- Call rotation required, assigned via sign-up sheet
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required during winter holiday periods
- Required to float within skillset
- EPIC charting experience required
- Active VA or compact RN license required; single-state license from a non-compact state accepted only while pending
- Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS required; CCRN and NIHSS preferred
- Level II Trauma Center experience required;
Level I Trauma experience preferred - Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Prior charge nurse experience preferred
- Travel nursing experience required
- Proficiency in IV therapy including blood product administration, central/PICC line care, and IV starts
- Respiratory care skills including ventilator management, chest tube care, airway management, tracheostomy care, extubation, and End-Tidal CO2 monitoring
- Neuro care experience including craniotomy, EVD management, spine surgery, and stroke scale assessment
- Cardiac care skills including antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, vasopressors, opioid administration, reversal agents, arterial line management, and dysrhythmia management
- Experience with surgical specialties including ENT, general, neuro, ortho, total joints, cholecystectomy, and spinal procedures
- Skilled in monitoring and assessment including lab value interpretation, isolation precautions, malignant hyperthermia protocol, pain management, PCA pump management, and RASS scoring
- Pediatric patient management experience required
- Pre/post-operative care skills including EKG, consent, cath/endoscopy procedures, and straight catheterization
- Two professional references required for consideration
- PDF copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Provide perianesthesia nursing care across a broad range of surgical specialties in a high-acuity trauma environment
- Facility is a 703-bed teaching hospital and the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adults and pediatrics
- Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with an academic medical school
- Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are not accepted
- Candidates living 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend
- Candidates living less than 50 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no eligibility to extend
- Previous per diem or permanent employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
- All RTO requests must be submitted upfront
