Research Scientist, Research Assistant/Associate
Job Description
The Addiction Recovery Research Center (ARRC), a research center at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC in Roanoke, VA that is dedicated to understanding and treating substance use disorders, is looking for a new part‑time Research Analyst to work primarily on research projects examining long‑term recovery from addiction as well as decision‑making processes and interventions relevant to substance use, including tobacco, alcohol, and cocaine use.
Typically, a Research Analyst supports a research team in the performance of various regulatory, data management, and analyses activities for research programs. This role will serve as part of the research team working collaboratively and independently to analyze, interpret, and disseminate data for funded research projects. Research support responsibilities range from entry‑ to advanced‑level.

- Making significant contributions to the projects assigned.
- Data management and analysis.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records.
- Conducting literature searches to gather background information.
- Participating in research team meetings to report on progress and data.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and analyze experimental data
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and team skills
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated computer skills and experience using Microsoft applications
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability and desire to succeed in a fast‑paced research environment with multiple concurrent duties
- Excellent communication skills
- Coursework or training in psychology, biology, neuroscience, or related field
- Demonstrated data analysis experience
- Experience in one or more of the following research areas: psychology, addiction, neuroscience, clinical trials
- Experience with basic laboratory protocols including proper handling of subject specimens, data collection, participant recruitment, assessments, and data management
- Proficiency with REDCap, Qualtrics, Question Pro or similar survey tools and/or experience with statistical analysis
- Experience with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, etc.) to support research study participation and community engagement
- Experience contributing to publications or scientific presentations
