PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT POSITIONJob Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current state licensure or license eligibility.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Exerting up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
- Occasional push and pull of up to 25 pounds.
- Standing frequently.
- Walking frequently.
- Bending frequently.
- Overhead reach infrequently.
- Squatting occasionally.
- Kneeling occasionally.
- Standing rotation occasionally.
- Gripping frequently.
- Sitting occasionally.
- Stair climbing occasionally.
- Average work day is up to 8 hours.
- Provides physical therapy services to residents under the direct supervision of the physical therapist.
- Identifies indications for evaluations and assists in evaluations under the direction of the physical therapist.
- Assists in developing a target list, short‑term and long‑term goals, and treatment plan.
- Conducts individual treatment sessions as assigned, covering areas such as muscle strength, coordination, mobility, sensory awareness, sitting and standing, transfer training, balance activities, gait training, range of motion, and modalities.
- Assists in selecting appropriate physical therapy techniques/media and adjusting them based on resident performance, in consultation with the physical therapist.
- Monitors patient response to intervention and consults with the physical therapist if modification is indicated.
- Assists in establishing and adjusting individual patient schedules in collaboration with the physical therapist and other team members.
- Adheres to department and patient schedules and adjusts as needed for the treatment regimen.
- Maintains acceptable patient‑care ratios set by the physical therapist.
- Provides, recommends, and fabricates adaptive devices or other equipment and trains patients, families, and staff in their use.
- Participates in patient, family, and staff education.
- Engages in formal and informal communication with team members to coordinate the total rehabilitation program.
- Follows Northwoods Rehab procedures for documenting physical therapy services.
- Delivers treatment in line with established standards of practice and departmental procedures.
- Maintains a safe and clean work area, complies with the community’s safety standards, infection control, universal precautions, and OSHA standards.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in planning, implementing, and following up patient therapy programs.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, patients, families, community personnel, and administration.
- Arrives on time, coordinates schedule for efficient patient treatments, and maintains professional image.
- Assists with and participates in the Quality Assurance Program as required.
- Adheres to confidentiality standards for patients and the organization.
- Maintains secure passwords for required software.
- Performs other duties as assigned to effectively discharge responsibilities and act in the best interest of Northwoods Rehab.
Responsible to and reports to the supervising physical therapist and Director of Therapy/Rehab.
