Position Summary

The Employee Health/Infection Prevention RN is responsible for providing professional nursing evaluation and care to employees in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and government safety regulations. The RN also assists the Director of Infection Prevention with the general operation of the Infection Prevention program.

General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assists with employee safety initiatives for the Hospital and Clinics.
  • Serves as the organization’s primary health contact for injured or sick employees.
  • Serves as a resource throughout the organization for employee health and promotes a healthy environment.
  • Ensures injury related paperwork and Workers Compensation claims are completed thoroughly, accurately and within established time limits.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources’ oversight of Workers Compensation, with the claims management organization to process Workers Compensation claims and provide other related information; inputs data for tracking and monitoring of injuries; ensures proper paperwork and signatures are obtained for ongoing claims/case management; conducts case management functions on employee injuries as appropriate.
  • Works with physicians to ensure coordinated thorough review of status and job requirements to ensure appropriate safe return-to-work timeline within established policies and procedures. Coordinates return to work activities for employees and ensures proper paperwork and signatures are obtained for ongoing claims/case management.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources on pre-employment and employment related employee health issues.
  • Assists with new employee orientation and ensures completion of required documents.
  • Understands employee health related responsibilities and how to ensure compliance with accreditation agencies, CDC, OSHA, FMLA, ADA and other governmental regulations and/or agencies in conjunction with internal policies and procedures.
  • Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the Employee Safety and Health Programs.
  • Assists the Director of Infection Prevention with infection control audits, case reviews, and surveillance rounds.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Infection Prevention regarding employee communicable disease outbreaks and/or exposures.
  • In the absence of the Director of Infection Prevention, reports all in-house patients with reportable communicable diseases to the county and/or state health department and maintains records.
  • Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • Current Professional Licensure Required

Certification/Licensure Requirements

  • Current IL RN License Required
  • BLS Required

Experience Requirements

  • Registered Nurse minimum 3 years Preferred
  • Occupational Medicine or related experience minimum 2 years Preferred

Computer Skills

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Additional Skills

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Must be well-organized, detail oriented and motivated to provide excellent service
  • Knowledge of state, federal, accreditation and regulatory agency laws and requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, professionalism and ability to articulate well with various levels
