Responsibilities- The Physician is the first contact for detainees/inmates and must diagnose a wide range of illnesses and injuries.
- Manage overall patient care and coordinate with specialists as needed.
- Manage and evaluate medical program activities based on industry standards and contractual obligations.
- Serve as liaison between correctional officials, public agencies, and the company; implement contractually required services.
- Examine and treat detainees/inmates to ensure injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery under clinical guidelines.
- Provide medical treatment and order studies, tests, and ancillary services consistent with basic health care.
- Prescribe pharmaceuticals and treatment regimens; review ongoing cases and administer vaccines as appropriate.
- Discuss potential medication side effects and ensure allergy information is up to date before prescribing.
- Advise patients on lifestyle and diet changes to improve health.
- Maintain clear health records and reports, including use of Electronic Health Records; ensure patient confidentiality in compliance with privacy laws.
- Collaborate with hospital medical teams, psychiatric/mental health professionals, nurses, health technicians, and administrative staff.
- Maintain professional knowledge through continuing medical education and professional engagement.
- Provide 24-hour on-call coverage to advise nursing staff and perform regular chart reviews for quality assurance.
- Determine levels of care and necessary equipment; identify continuing care facilities and specialty physicians; initiate dental and psychiatric referrals.
- Participate in mortality reviews and respond to peer reviews; perform additional duties as assigned.
- Medical degree from an accredited school and licensure to practice as a medical or osteopathic physician in the state of the facility.
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in primary care or related field preferred.
- Two (2) years of direct work experience as a physician.
- Completion of a US-based residency program.
- Current
DEA and D.P.S. Certificate of Registration; professional license on file at the facility. - Ability to provide independent, critical thinking and collaborate with subspecialist consultants.
- Up-to-date pharmacology, safety, and medical skills for the correctional setting; comfort using Electronic Health Records (training provided).
- Ability to interact effectively with detainees/inmates and facility staff; adapt medical techniques for the correctional population; understand security considerations.
