Position Summary:
The Cook or Chef is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, culturally appropriate meals in a shelter environment that supports children and youth. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety, sanitation standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food service, committed to the well-being of minors, and capable of maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming dining space.

Key things to know:
- Salary: $20.81 Hourly (Bi-weekly pay)
- Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Travel: Minimal; may include occasional local errands or supply pickups.

- Certifications: First aid, CPR, and Emergency behavior intervention training provided.
Qualifications
Required:
- MUST BE FLUENT IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in food preparation or institutional cooking
- Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Must pass background checks and health screenings
- Experience working in environments serving children or vulnerable populations preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks according to menu plans and dietary guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining areas, and equipment
- Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies
- Follow all food safety regulations and agency protocols
- Collaborate with program staff to support special dietary needs and meal accommodations
- Participate in inspections, audits, and ongoing training
- Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere in the dining area
