With a turnover exceeding £60m and a nationwide presence, we are a premier civil engineering contractor dedicated to excellence. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Company Accountant to join our head office team and take ownership of our core financial functions.
The RoleAs a vital member of our finance team, you will ensure the accuracy of our financial records, maintain strict HMRC compliance, and provide the strategic analysis necessary to help guide the business forward and improve our current accounting processes. This is a hands-on role requiring a blend of technical accounting expertise and office management skills.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting:
Preparation of quarterly management accounts and Year-End Accounts, including all accruals, prepayments, and provisions. - Tax & Compliance:
Lead on VAT reconciliations, monthly HMRC payments, and CIS return submissions. Manage PAYE/NHI and Year-End P11ds. - Banking:
Maintain the weekly master cash book and perform all monthly bank reconciliations within Sage Accounts. - Payroll & Expenses:
Oversee payroll accuracy against timesheets, manage weekly agent expenses, and maintain company vehicle mileage logs. - Office Management:
Provide day-to-day oversight of the Sales, Purchase, and Payroll offices, ensuring all deadlines are met and acting as the internal expert for Nominal coding and VAT queries. - Strategic Support:
Verify subcontractors with HMRC and manage subcontractor retention releases.
- Qualifications:
You must be a Qualified Accountant. - Experience:
Proven experience in a similar role is essential. Previous experience within the construction or civil engineering sector is highly desirable. - Software:
Strong proficiency in Sage Accounts and Sage Payroll is required. - Attributes:
High level of accuracy, the ability to streamline processes, and a proactive approach to meeting tight deadlines.
