ALF Recruit is exclusively partnering with an ambitious, growing construction business in Rochdale to recruit a Commercial Manager. This opportunity is ideally suited to a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take on broader responsibility and progress into commercial leadership.
You'll build on your existing project experience, taking ownership of commercial performance across the business and working directly alongside the Directors. Alongside the hands-on commercial work, you'll have the opportunity to improve processes, contribute to business decisions and shape how the commercial function develops.
The business delivers projects across civil engineering, groundworks and industrial/commercial construction, with project values typically ranging from £200,000 to £1 million.
You don't need to have held a Commercial Manager title already. We're looking for someone with strong quantity surveying experience, sound commercial judgement and the ambition to take the next step.

Profile:
Reporting directly to the Directors, you'll manage the commercial performance of multiple live projects while developing your involvement in business-wide planning and decision-making.
Managing projects commercially from tender through to final account
Producing CVRs, commercial reports and profitability analysis
Managing applications for payment, valuations, variations and final accounts
Taking ownership of procurement and subcontractor negotiations
Reviewing tender opportunities and contributing to pricing decisions
Working closely with operational teams to control costs and protect project margins
Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
Visiting sites to monitor progress and address commercial matters
Improving commercial processes to support the business as it grows
Providing the Directors with clear visibility of project performance, risks and opportunities
What we are looking for:
An experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to progress into Commercial Management
A background in civil engineering, groundworks, industrial/commercial construction, steel frame developments or external works
Experience taking commercial ownership of multiple live projects
Strong knowledge of CVRs, valuations, variations and final accounts

Experience with JCT contracts, with NEC knowledge beneficial
Sound commercial judgement and confidence managing costs, margins and contractual matters
The ability to build effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and project teams
A hands-on approach and the confidence to make decisions and suggest improvements
An interest in taking on wider business responsibility and developing your leadership skills

Experience with in an SME or growing construction business would be advantageous
