Role Overview
We are currently seeking a committed, caring, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work within schools across the Heywood area. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff. You may be required to provide one-to-one support or work with small groups, depending on the needs of the pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties
Offer one-to-one and small group support within the classroom and during interventions
Support pupils with their academic work, emotional regulation, and social development
Assist the class teacher with lesson preparation, delivery, and classroom management
Implement and follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans, and SEN strategies
Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
Promote a positive, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment at all times
Essential Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (school-based experience preferred)
A good understanding of different SEN needs and appropriate support strategies
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to adapt to different classroom settings and pupil needs
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
Desirable Criteria
Relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, or SEN
Experience working in primary or secondary school settings
Behaviour management or safeguarding training
