Teaching Assistant - PRU

Location: Rochdale
Start Date: September 2026
Role: Full-Time Teaching Assistant

Spencer Clarke Group are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Rochdale from September.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour and who can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally. You will help create a safe, structured and positive environment where young people can develop their confidence, engagement and behaviour.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a PRU, SEMH, specialist school, residential setting or similar environment supporting young people with challenging behaviour.

The successful candidate will:
  • Have experience supporting young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
  • Ideally have experience working in a PRU, SEMH school, specialist provision or residential setting
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils
  • Be resilient, patient and empathetic
  • Work effectively as part of a wider staff team
  • Support pupils with their learning, behaviour and emotional development
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young people
