About the Role Working across a 7-day rota, you'll help manage the ward/department and deputise for the manager when required, bringing confidence and leadership to the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional leadership and support
  • Promote practice and education development
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff and students
  • Support the effective use of resources
  • Uphold the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Deliver specialist care through Intravitreal Injections in a nurse‑led clinic
  • Maintain NMC registration and professional standards
  • Build strong relationships and communication with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families
  • Act as a patient advocate to ensure the best outcomes and experiences
  • Stay up to date with current nursing and healthcare developments
  • Participate in Preceptorship and Clinical Supervision programmes
  • Lead the pre‑assessment and planning of ophthalmic injection patients across settings
  • Safely manage and deliver Intravitreal Injections
  • Work in line with national, Trust, and local policies and standards
  • Ensure proper use and operation of medical equipment
  • Deliver direct care including eye medication administration
  • Provide pre‑ and post‑operative ophthalmic care
  • Safely position patients and support diagnostic procedures
  • Contribute to the assessment, planning, and evaluation of care delivery
Qualifications & Professional Registration
  • Degree / diploma in nursing studies (or equivalent nursing qualification and experience)
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Part 1 Adult / General Level 1 or
    2)
  • Ophthalmic course
  • Recognised teaching course
  • Leadership course
Knowledge, Training & Experience
  • Knowledge of the eye anatomy and physiology
  • Worked within an ophthalmic outpatient or surgical setting within the last 3 years
  • Demonstrate an interest in the speciality
Skills and Abilities
  • Previous leadership experience within an ophthalmic setting
  • Competent telephone manner
  • Good knowledge of computer software including Open Eyes
  • Ability to work within a team and under own initiative
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for the ophthalmic patient and have knowledge of Intravitreal injections
