Production Trainer | Rochdale

The Production Trainer is responsible for developing and maintaining the capability of frontline teams to ensure production lines operate safely, consistently, and to defined standards.

Working closely with Area Supervisors and Line Leaders, the role ensures that all colleagues are trained, competent, and able to deliver built‑in quality, standardised work, and right‑first‑time performance.

The Production Trainer plays a key role in embedding new ways of working, supporting onboarding of new starters, and ensuring that knowledge, standards, and processes are consistently applied across the site.

This role is very much slicing hall based and supports the transition from a reactive operation to a structured, disciplined, and capability‑led environment.

What You Will Be Doing Training & Capability Development
  • Coordinate and deliver training for new and existing employees.
  • Ensure all employees are trained and assessed against defined standards and standard work.
  • Support Line Leaders in developing team capability and maintaining skill levels.
  • Identify skill gaps and work with Area Supervisors to develop training plans.
Built‑In Quality & Standardised Work
  • Ensure all training reinforces built‑in quality and right‑first‑time principles.
  • Support the consistent application of standards from clear high‑quality SOPs across lines and shifts.
  • Challenge poor practices and reinforce correct ways of working.
Onboarding & Induction
  • Deliver structured inductions for all new starters (permanent and agency).
  • Ensure new starters understand:
    • Site standards
    • Quality expectations
    • Safe working practices
    • Shift routines and behaviours
  • Support early‑stage performance through on‑the‑job coaching.
Training Delivery & On‑the‑Job Coaching
  • Spend time on production lines coaching and observing employees.
  • Support Line Leaders in training and assessing team members.
  • Ensure standards are being followed and understood.

Provide immediate feedback and coaching where required.

Performance Support
  • Work with Area Supervisors to support development of underperforming individuals and teams.
  • Assist in identifying training‑related root causes of issues such as:
    • Rework
    • Poor yield
    • Inconsistent performance
  • Support structured problem solving through improved capability.
Training Records & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date training records.
  • Ensure all training, signoffs, and competency assessments are:
    • Documented
    • Auditable
    • Completed to standard
  • Ensure refresher training is planned and delivered on time.
Standard Work & Documentation Support
  • Support the creation and updating of:
    • SOPs
    • Work instructions
    • Standard work materials
  • Work with the Process Engineer and Senior Operations Administrator to ensure:
    • Documentation is accurate
    • Standards are current
    • Training aligns with defined processes
Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with:
    • Area Supervisors (team capability & performance)
    • Line Leaders (daily execution & coaching)
    • HR (training plans and onboarding)
    • Labour Planning Lead (skills and deployment alignment)
  • Support audits, visits, and inspections as required.
Success Measures
  • Increased capability and confidence of Line Leaders and Operators
  • Consistent adherence to SOPs and Standard Work
  • Reduction in rework and quality defects
  • Improved right‑first‑time performance
  • Accurate and audit‑ready training records

Faster and more effective onboarding of new starters

What You Will Bring
  • Experience working in a production / manufacturing environment
  • Experience delivering training or coaching in an operational setting
  • Strong understanding of shop floor operations and performance drivers
  • Strong communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to influence and support frontline teams
  • Clear understanding of quality, food safety, and operational standards
  • Ability to identify and close capability gaps
  • High attention to detail and organisational discipline
  • Able to work in a fast‑paced, operational environment
