Position SummaryA Cardiac Sonographer (Echo Tech) is a Cardiac Ultrasound Professional who provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Cardiac Sonographer is also responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
The Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self‑motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve.
- Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA‑approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
- Graduate of a formal Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) preferred
- Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate
- Current BLS
- The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Reasonably anticipated occupational exposure to blood, blood‑borne pathogens, and other potentially infectious materials.
- Job may require potential exposure to chemical/hazardous materials.
- Requires potential for exposure to an environmental hazard of radiation.
- Must be able to push, pull or lift 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. on occasion. Moving equipment and patients weighing 125 lbs or more from wheelchair and stretchers. Pushing wheelchairs and stretchers from waiting area to procedure rooms.
- Standing/walking for long periods of time in patient areas and during equipment operation.
- Sitting for extended periods of time when displaying and recording images.
