Position Summary

Accurately collects and records patient demographic and insurance/financial demographics from patients presenting for services at Rochelle Community Hospital. Ensures that patient information is complete and appropriate signatures are obtained. Performs registration process in accordance with State, Federal and hospital policies, procedures and regulations. Insures appropriate patient information is available to ancillary departments. Exhibits competency in answering the switchboard promptly and with courtesy for incoming calls and extends calls to appropriate hospital extensions.

Pages employees, physicians and visitors as needed. Remains knowledgeable and displays confidence in following procedures and responsibilities related to alarms and codes.

Education
  • Preferred Level: High School Diploma or GED. Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
Skills
  • Mandatory basic keyboard skills.
  • Previous experience working with public required, preferably in a healthcare setting. Must be able to take initiative and responsibility for actions.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual skills are beneficial but not required.
  • Displays emotional maturity when performing duties.
  • Visual and hearing acuity pertinent to communication with patients, visitors and staff. Displays a positive attitude at all times.
  • Handles conflict situations effectively.
  • Able to perform assigned duties as a team and independently without direct supervision. Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work accurately and effectively in oral and written directions and communication.
  • Enjoys working with people and works cooperatively with other hospital staff.
  • Clerk is frequently required to operate a computer and file and retrieve documents.
  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching and bending.
