Job Description SummaryMUSIC – Instructor of Applied Percussion: Oakland University, School of Music, Theatre and Dance, invites applicants for a part-time Instructor of Music – Applied Percussion position to join our instrumental faculty in a growing program, beginning August 15, 2023.
Primary responsibilities:
teach undergraduate applied percussion lessons and studio classes, co‑direct the percussion ensemble, along with teaching percussion methods (music education course), and a performance‑based repertoire and pedagogy course. Other opportunities based on candidate’s qualifications may include:
1) performing with resident Oakland Symphony Orchestra,
2) coaching small chamber ensemble(s),
3) maintenance of our OU percussion instrument inventory, and
4) other possible teaching duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue growth and success in their performance career, while maintaining a strong commitment to teaching, recruiting/retention, and service to the field. This posting is to create a pool of interested applicants from which the Department may draw as sections become open at any point in the academic year.
Pre‑employment screening includes verification of academic credentials and background check.
Master’s degree in percussion performance or related field, and experience as a teacher and performer at the University level.
