Job Title: Assistant Professor

SUMMARY: Faculty develops, implements, and evaluates the assigned program of study on an ongoing basis. This position participates in selecting students, advising students, curriculum development, program revisions, program evaluations, textbook selection, teaching in the classroom and clinical setting, evaluation of student achievement, and other matters, as assigned, in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the college.
RESPONSIBILITIESKey Responsibilities
- Provides leadership for all academic programs.
- Works with the Program Coordinator and the Dean of Academics to facilitate program development, implementation, evaluation, and assessment.
- Ensures systematic review of programs to maintain quality, regulatory compliance, and current course content aligned with best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the President, Program Coordinator, and/or Dean of Academics.
- Serves on assigned committees and reports to the relevant Program Coordinator.
- Participates in interviewing and provides hiring recommendations for faculty.
- Arranges class coverage during absences or emergencies.
- Promotes positive rapport within the department, campus, and community.
- Maintains a minimum of three office hours per week to assist students with counseling, advising, and coursework.
- Models professionalism, punctuality, and standards of practice in all settings.
- Functions as a change agent and leader by promoting innovative educational practices.
- Participates in professional development (minimum 23 CE hours annually), including:
- 10 hours related to NLN Nurse Educator Core Competencies,
- 5 hours related to content taught,
- 8 hours elective.
- Recommends equipment and software purchases and maintenance needs.
- Participates in budget planning, faculty meetings, and accreditation reviews.
- Contributes to program and policy development, student recruitment, and faculty orientation.
- Assists in program evaluation, student policy revisions, and curricular enhancements.
- Serves on at least one program committee and the assigned Program Advisory Committee.
- Participates in organization-wide committees when requested.
- Serves as a student advisor, guiding academic and personal development.
- Develops remediation plans and meets regularly with at-risk students.
- Connects students with institutional and community resources to support success.
- Implements and evaluates course syllabi and assignments.
- Submits suggested revisions to the Curriculum Chair and Program Coordinator.
- Designs and implements new curriculum reflecting institutional philosophy and healthcare trends.
- Maintains control of the classroom and ensures effective learning environments.
- Utilizes diverse teaching methods to accommodate student learning styles.
- Encourages active student participation and collaboration.
- Provides professional role modeling and fosters a positive learning climate.
- For clinical supervision:
- Participates in clinical orientation and validations per agency requirements.
- Develops and implements clinical assignments and schedules.
- Supervises students in patient care settings, conducts pre- and post-conferences, and evaluates student performance.
- Provides timely verbal and written feedback.
- Evaluates student performance in both didactic and clinical courses.
- Participates in peer and program evaluations.
Reviews student course evaluations and incorporates feedback into future planning.
Participates in program planning based on student, program, and employer feedback. Workload- Faculty (Full-Time, Part-Time, or Per Diem) are responsible for classroom, lab, clinical, and/or simulation instruction as assigned.
- Full-Time Faculty: up to 24 academic credits per year.
- Part-Time/Per Diem Faculty: up to 12 academic credits per year.
- Faculty are required to hold 2–4 office hours per week, attend faculty meetings, and participate in institutional events (graduation, pinning, etc.).
- Faculty are expected to maintain professional competence and contribute to institutional service as mutually agreed upon with the Dean of Academics, including:
- Up to 104 hours annually for professional development/scholarship/clinical currency.
- Up to 104 hours annually for service to the institution or parent organization.
- Serves on program-specific advisory boards involving key community stakeholders.
- Participates in publicizing and promoting program activities and initiatives.
Semester = 15 weeks
- 1 credit = 15 hours lecture
- 1 credit = 30 hours laboratory/simulation
- 1 credit = 45 hours externship/clinical
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Professional license applicable for program of study (e.g., RN, RT, Surgical Tech, etc.); current AHA Basic Life Support certification for Nursing.
