Pastoral Support Assistant​/HLTA;

Position: Pastoral Support Assistant/HLTA (Contract)
We are looking for a skilled learning support assistant, HLTA or pastoral officer for a wonderful independent SEN school, for learners with a diagnosis of autism.

This is a fixed term contract, full time - FTE £26,000 - £29,990.

Job Purpose

To promote the welfare and academic success of learners ensuring that learner wellbeing and safeguarding is the focus of all actions undertaken in the role. To promote positive behaviour throughout the school and support learners to take responsibility for their behaviour and choices.

Pastoral Responsibilities:

* To support the Head of Welfare with all aspects of a learner’s personal wellbeing, ensuring that the school meets all learners’ personal and social needs.

* Provide one-to-one pastoral support to learners, where necessary. To promote and support positive behaviour for learning.

* Liaise effectively with the SENCo, staff members, parents and carers to ensure the needs of all learners are met and provide strategies and support for social and emotional barriers to learning.

* To provide information and advice to families regarding local services available to them and to signpost and refer to these services when required.

* Provide support regarding behaviour needs across the school, including the pastoral room, playground and assist with behaviour needs in classroom or wherever deemed necessary.

* Work closely with our Attendance Lead to ensure all learners attend every day and arrive on time.

* To promote a community spirit and ethos and support with the running of Learner Voice groups including Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, Develop links with local community groups, forging links with external partners.

DSL Responsibilities:

* Provide support to the DSL to ensure all learners are safe.

* Work as part of the safeguarding team to ensure all concerns raised on MyConcern are dealt with swiftly and effectively.

* Work with external agencies e.g., Social Care, Local Authority, Referring schools, Family solutions, EP and complete referrals when appropriate.

* Participate in multi-disciplinary assessments and contribute towards the planning, reviewing and evaluation of interventions.

Essential Requirements:

* Previous experience in working with children and young adults with SEND

* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with learners, colleagues, and external stakeholders. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively

* Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting learners’ personal development

Desirable

Experience:

* Knowledge of local and national support services that are available to learners and schools

* Previous experience in a pastoral role

* Knowledge of legislation regarding learner attendance, safeguarding and data protection

* SEND and/or training/certification in understanding autism and similar.
