Our client is seeking a passionate and experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to join their team in Medway. The role involves delivering Entry Level 1-3 and Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills English to small groups (up to 12 learners). This is not a mainstream teaching role; you will work with learners who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Down syndrome, and other complex learning needs.
Success in this role requires patience, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to supporting learners who may need additional help with communication, engagement, and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Functional Skills English lessons
- Develop schemes of work aligned to curriculum standards
- Assess learner ability through diagnostics and ongoing evaluation
- Support learners' progress with tailored teaching strategies
- Prepare learners for exams and track their development
- Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance team to meet KPIs
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusive learning environments
- Participate in CPD and standardisation activities
- Teaching qualification (AET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
- English qualification (GCSE Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level
2) - Assessor qualification
- Experience teaching learners with varying abilities and additional needs
- Experience supporting learners with SEND
- SEN qualification
- Knowledge of EHCPs
