Job Title: Functional Skills Maths Tutor

Location: Rochester

Salary: £25,000 £ 34,000 (dependent on experience)

The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate Functional Skills Maths Tutor to deliver Entry Level 1 3 and Level 1 & 2 Maths in a specialist education setting in Medway.

This is not a mainstream teaching role. As the Functional Skills Maths Tutor you will be working with learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, dyslexia, and other complex needs.

Class sizes are small (up to 12 learners), and sessions require a patient, adaptable, and creative approach to teaching.

Key Responsibilities As the Functional Skills Maths Tutor

  • Plan and deliver engaging Functional Skills Maths sessions (Entry Level to Level
    2)
  • Differentiate learning to meet a wide range of needs
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards
  • Assess learner progress through diagnostics, mock exams, and ongoing reviews
  • Support learners with communication, emotional regulation, and confidence
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and performance
  • Prepare learners for exams and successful outcomes
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance team to maintain high standards
  • Ensure safeguarding, Prevent, and equality policies are followed at all times

Requirements

Essential:

  • Teaching qualification (AET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
  • Maths qualification (GCSE Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level
    2)
  • Assessor qualification
  • Experience teaching learners with SEND or diverse learning needs
  • Strong classroom management and differentiation skills

Desirable:

  • SEN qualification
  • Knowledge of EHCPs
