Job DescriptionYou’ll validate cutting‑edge mixed‑signal chips that make hard disk drives work—literally in the path where data gets written and read. Work on next‑gen Preamp technology, solve real hardware challenges, and learn from both junior and senior engineers who’ll help you grow.
What You’ll Do- Characterize next-gen Preamp chips
using high-frequency RF test gear (Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers) - Automate testing workflows
– write/modify TCL scripts to speed up validation cycles - Debug signal integrity issues
on prototype boards; run failure analysis and publish findings - Partner with chip designers and vendors
– test theories, verify fixes, optimize HDD performance - Build test plans from scratch
– design experiments, collect data, document what works (and what doesn't)
First 90 days: Ramp on Preamp architecture → Support component testing → Ship your first automated test scripts
This position is part of our Early Career program Early Career program is designed to support individuals beginning their professional career by providing the foundational training through a structured onboarding, mentorship, and development curriculum.
Qualifications- Currently pursuing or recently completed a MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering,or equivalent experience.
- Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you at any point in the future required
- Solid analog fundamentals
– you understand RF design, transmission lines, and signal integrity - Hands‑on lab skills
– comfortable with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and high‑speed measurement setups - Coding for automation
– can write test scripts (TCL preferred, but adaptable) - Verilog/System Verilog, VHDL, or FPGA experience
- PCB layout tools (KiCAD, Altium, etc.)
- HDD architecture knowledge
- Model Sim simulation experience
