If you answered yes, we’ve got the perfect role for you! We are looking for a staff nurse to work as a member of the team in the Wisdom Hospice to provide holistic nursing care to inpatients with varying conditions including cancer, MND and other neurological conditions, respiratory disease and heart failure.
This post is for 37.5 hours per week with options to work long days or short shifts. The successful applicant will be expected to work rotational days and nights, support the Band’6 senior nurses in planning and evaluating programmes of care in a specialist setting without direct supervision, triage out‑of‑hours calls from community patients, and deputise for the senior nurse when required.

- Triage out‑of‑hours calls from community patients and refer complex issues to on‑call team.
- Deputise for the senior nurse when required.
- Provide holistic nursing care, including physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and relatives, and administering medications according to guidelines.
- Assist with verification of death, conducting after‑death sessions and mortuary duties in a dignified manner.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and keep up‑to‑date records in accordance with NMC and organisational policies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to promote effective communication.
- Provide training and support to qualified and unqualified staff and contribute to the development of nursing practice on the unit.
- Assist nurse in charge with on‑site responsibilities for security, catering, portering and domestic duties of the unit out of hours.
- Act as mentor for students and attend clinical supervision.
- First-level registered nurse.
- Relevant post‑registration palliative‑care course or willingness to undertake.
- Strong analytical and judgement skills, understanding of team working and individual needs.
- Ability to plan and deliver care to patients admitted to the IPU, supported by senior nursing, medical and wider MDT.
- Proficiency in safe medication administration and syringe‑driver setup.
- Knowledge of statutory and mandatory training requirements, and ability to maintain a learning passport.
