Overview
Location: Rochester Delivery Office, ME1 1AA
Job type: Permanent contract
Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 35 hours per week – 5 days in 7 across Monday–Sunday, 07:00–15:00. You may be required to work Sundays at Rochester Delivery Office, between 10:00 and 18:00, on a 1 in 4 basis.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office
- Deliver post by van and on foot in your local area
- Build relationships with customers
- Work outdoors in all weathers

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:
- Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
- Driving a Royal Mail van daily
- Working in all weather conditions
- Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
- Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods
We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:
- A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
- Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
- Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills, and lifting/carrying 10kg+ mailbags
- Reliable and self-motivated
- Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
- Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
- Comfortable working outdoors and independently

- Note:
Roles offering between 35-37 hours per week are listed as full-time for candidate search purposes. Any role under 37 hours per week will be classified as part-time in the employment contract. - As a Postie, you’re expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items in line with Royal Mail business standards.
