Overview

The School of Health Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, invites qualified persons with a passion for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to apply for two full-time tenure-track positions at the level of Associate or Assistant Professor within the Public and Environmental Wellness (PEW) department. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications. The EHS faculty offers undergraduate (Bachelor of Science in EHS) and graduate (Master of Safety Science Management) programs, both ABET-accredited, within the PEW department.

The PEW department pursues societys big health challenges and provides an outstanding educational and research environment for students, graduates, and professionals in public, industrial, and scientific communities. Our EHS programs focus on translating knowledge to identify, evaluate and control hazards that expose people, property, or the environment to danger or harm. We offer well-equipped physical laboratories for industrial hygiene, environmental testing, industrial and robotics safety, fire suppression, ergonomics, occupational biomechanics, and related areas.

We value partnerships and enjoy collegial relationships with engineering, computer science, environmental and behavioral science colleagues across campus, supported by an Industrial Advisory Board with industry links. We are located in Oakland County at the heart of Automation Alley within the greater Detroit region, specializing in automotive and transportation research, design, and manufacturing. The areas of expertise and specialization sought include industrial hygiene, industrial and robotics safety, electrical systems, construction safety, safety systems management, and EHS program leadership and development within the broader context of public health and wellness.

The desired candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethics in pursuit of experimental, translational, and/or community-based research pursuits. Attainment of the CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or other professional designation or recognition is desired (e.g., CIH, CHMM). The successful candidate will have teaching strengths in one or more of the above fields and will value diverse teaching methodologies (e.g., online, service-learning, multimodal instruction).

To be considered, candidates must demonstrate experience with and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Candidates with experience and interest in continuous program improvement and accreditation, and leadership in academia, community engagement, and program development, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to initiate and maintain a successful program of research, scholarship, service, and community engagement.
