Overview
The Labor & Delivery RN provides skilled, compassionate care to women throughout the childbirth process, including antepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum care. The RN supports laboring patients, assists with deliveries (vaginal and cesarean), monitors fetal and maternal well-being, and ensures a safe and supportive environment for families. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to work in high-pressure situations, and effective collaboration with the interdisciplinary perinatal team.
LocationLocation: Hospital - Labor & Delivery (L&D)
Responsibilities- Provide continuous assessment, monitoring, and care to patients during labor and delivery.
- Administer medications, including IV fluids, oxytocin, epidural support, and emergency medications as ordered.
- Interpret fetal heart monitoring and respond appropriately to changes in maternal or fetal status.
- Assist with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and emergency obstetric procedures.
- Provide immediate newborn care and support initial breastfeeding efforts.
- Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
- Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and support staff.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Support emergency situations, including postpartum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, or fetal distress.
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Must have at least 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience using Cerner EHR system
- Current and unrestricted RN license (state-specific as required)
- BLS and NRP certification required; ACLS and STABLE preferred
- Strong knowledge of obstetric emergencies, fetal monitoring, and maternal care best practices
- Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Excellent communication, clinical decision-making, and patient advocacy skills
