Employment Details- Citizenship:
Must be a U.S. Citizen. - Clearance:
National background check with inquiries and fingerprints, and drug screen. - Period of Performance: 01 January 2026 – 31 December 2030.
- Type of Employment:
Part‑time, independent contractor (1099). - Hours:
No more than 32 hours per month.
- Graduate of an accredited school of optometry.
- Expanded optometry license permitting prescription of legend ophthalmologic medications.
- Valid and current license to practice optometry in any U.S. state or territory.
- Minimum of five (5) years of optometry experience.
- Copies of all certifications and resumes forwarded with application.
The Optometrist will perform eye examinations and refractions, provide eye prescriptions, fit and adjust eyeglasses, and, in some instances, contact lenses. In emergencies, the contractor may be required to provide eyeglasses and/or repair eyeglasses.
AttireProfessional clothing is expected while on duty.
Duties And Responsibilities- Conduct detailed assessments of the eyes, including testing peripheral vision, eye muscle function, and retina, cornea, and optic nerve condition. Use advanced diagnostic tools such as slit lamps and visual field analyzers to write eye prescriptions based on the exam.
- Use high‑tech diagnostic tools, including optical coherent tomography (OCT), to monitor and diagnose retinal and optic nerve issues precisely.
- Develop personalized treatment plans for patients with dry eye syndrome, diabetic retinopathy, or refractive errors.
- Identify cases requiring surgical intervention (e.g., cataract surgery) and refer patients to ophthalmologists.
- Fit specialty lenses for patients with unique needs, such as rigid gas permeable lenses for keratoconus or multifocal lenses for presbyopia.
- Offer guidance on proper use, storage, and care of contact lenses, ensuring patients avoid risks such as eye infections.
- Collaborate with other departments for diabetes‑related eye health screenings and early detection of complications.
- Provide therapy for patients with binocular vision disorders or focusing problems, improving learning and daily activities.
- Document electronic health system patient histories, treatment plans and follow‑up results.
